Attenborough Village Bowls Club
We are a friendly not-for-profit outdoor bowls club situated in the village of Attenborough (near Beeston, Nottingham). It has been said that our venue on the edge of the Attenborough Nature Reserve is one of the most picturesque in the County.
We are open every Monday, Thursday and Saturday during the season between 2-4, with equipment and instruction available. Feel free to come down and give bowls a try even outside of the Open Day dates. Please wear flat(ish) shoes. We look forward to seeing you.
Information for the 2025 season has now been entered on the website. The club reopened on Saturday 12th April 2025.
Go Green – Try Bowls. Thanks to everyone who attended the Open Day on Saturday 26th April 2025 10:30-16:00 and/or the one on Saturday 24th May 2025 10:30-16:00 (as part of the Bowls England Big Weekend www.bowlsbigweekend.com ) – All Welcome. If you were unable to make an Open Day please feel free to all down whenever we are open and someone will help you get started.
If you would like to see a short (3 minute) video introduction to the Club please click the link https://youtu.be/JhR0chMKo2E Note: the video was shot on a competition day when whites are occasionally worn. We play in (essentially) greys during the rest of the season. You can contact us via the Contact webpage.
We operate on an annual membership basis with new members always very welcome. Please feel free to come down and have a look at what the club has to offer – the above video link will provide a flavour of the club and we hope it encourages you to join. Coaching can be arranged if you are new to the game or require a quick refresher and we have a supply of bowls which can be borrowed.
People wishing to “come along and try bowls” later in the season can use our facilities for £5 per person per session during the times that we are open (usually Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons), and join the club for a reduced subscription.
First founded in 1908 Attenborough Village Bowls Club was reformed in 1981 and in 1991 moved to the present site on the outskirts of Nottingham, about halfway between Beeston and Long Eaton. We have our own clubhouse and green and are open on Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons during April through September for social bowling (meeting at 1.45pm for a) 2pm start for 1 or 2 hours of play, depending upon how long you would like to play for, followed by a cup of tea (and cakes on Saturday). The club runs a number of internal competitions on a knockout basis during the season as well as some tournaments that run throughout the season. Members can also play at other times as long as the rinks have not been pre-booked.
The club play friendly games against clubs in the surrounding areas of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, as well as operating in the evening midweek Nottinghamshire Bowls and Long Eaton Leagues and also the afternoon Beeston Open League. During the winter months some players play at the Erewash Indoor Bowls Centre representing various teams that compete on various days during the week.
We hold social events throughout the year and keep members up to date of events via Newsletters.
Club and League games can be found on the Fixtures page (any changes during the season will be updated there as soon as possible).

All income is used to maintain the ground and its infrastructure. Any issues that arise requiring major financial outlay (for example our recent need to replace the water pump) are extremely difficult to fund. We welcome any support or donations that enable us to continue to provide a resource that enables people to remain active whilst at the same time socialising to improve their well-being. If you are in a position to provide any support please reach us via the Contact page. We are extremely grateful to our Sponsors below for their support this season.
